Agreement Signed for Continuation of Southern Longitudinal Construction

(Patria) - After eight years, construction of the Southern Longitudinal will resume. Last year, following a long wait to resolve property-legal issues, those challenges were overcome, and the Novo Sarajevo Municipality issued a building permit, and a public procurement for the selection of a contractor was also announced last year.

Today, a Framework Agreement was signed for the continuation of the construction of the Southern Longitudinal, specifically for the construction of a roundabout, a connection with the already built section near the Grbavica auxiliary stadium, and service roads.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Transport Adnan Šteta, Director of the Roads Directorate Selmir Kovač, and the selected contractors: Mibral d.o.o Sarajevo and Ado Trans d.o.o Visoko.

“Once we received the building permit, we immediately announced a public procurement for this project. This continuation will be the first step in solving traffic congestion in this area, but also a good direction for further design and work on other sections of this road,” emphasized Minister Šteta.

In addition to construction works on the road and the roundabout, as well as reinforced concrete walls, it will be necessary to carry out works on the water supply system, and works related to stormwater and sewage systems. The project will also include complete traffic signaling. Alongside these works, public lighting will be reconstructed, part of the contact trolleybus network will be upgraded, and a large number of cables and installations will have to be relocated, as well as the existing hot water pipeline for the district heating plant.

“This is a very demanding project; I expect maximum dedication from the contractor and supervision, so that the works are carried out with quality and within the planned deadlines,” added Minister Šteta.

Due to the overall complexity of the project, significant involvement of all parties in various phases of the project will be necessary to ensure everything is in the best order for the project's realization.
The project will certainly contribute to increasing the safety of all traffic participants and reducing congestion in this part of the city.

The value of the Framework Agreement is 3,394,000.00 BAM excluding VAT, and the funds for the project were secured by the Ministry of Transport and the Roads Directorate of Sarajevo Canton.
