Memorial Plaque Unveiled: May It Forever Remember the Injustice and Carry the Memory of Dženan

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A memorial plaque „Wounded Stone“ for the murdered 22-year-old Dženan Memić was unveiled today in Velika aleja on Ilidža. His death has been shrouded in mystery for two years, and the ongoing trial against Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović is called a farce by the family. Memić sustained injuries at this spot in the alley on February 8, 2016, from which he died on February 15, 2016.

On the stone, 1.80 meters high and 90 cm wide, which symbolizes the slain young man, the following text is inscribed:

-  While white headstones await justice to populate the quiet city, let this wounded stone bear witness to the strength of one who yearns, who remained longing to caress a strand of silk.

 While white headstones await the truth to testify to an interrupted dream, let this white stone, for a wounded heart, illuminate yet another day.

 While we await justice for a pure soul, let the pain, carved into the stone by a tear, be a message to generations to come:      „When oppression becomes the rule, resistance becomes an obligation.“  

Dženan's father Muriz told the Patria agency that the family has not placed headstones on Dženan's grave because the killer has not been found.

- There is also the possibility of exhumation, and that is why we have waited all this time to place the headstone – said Muriz Memić.

In his address, interrupted by painful sighs, he said from the crime scene that the truth will be revealed. He said that today he looked among those gathered for his son's gaze, just as on the day he was killed.

- I thought that when you have all the evidence, it is easy to get to the truth. Well, it is not; I must repeat a million times that Dženan was murdered. I will prove that the mafia can be dealt with. I am a father who will prove that. We will deal with this gang - said Memić.

Dženan's sister Arijana addressed those present, saying that „people are only dead when everyone forgets them.“

- Many of you know who Dženan Memić was and what he was like. And if you were not lucky enough to meet him during his lifetime, you will get to know him through the words of those who remain after him, through the strength of those who tirelessly fight for the truth about his death, through the integrity of those who breathe for his justice – said Arijana.

- Let this wounded stone be a reminder and a warning. May it forever remember the injustice and carry the memory of Dženan – added Arijana. 

The lawyer for the Memić family, Ifet Feraget, said that Muriz Memić deserves the truth.

- The truth is not begged for, it is demanded. We will never ask anyone to do anything. This story has gone far. This is also a memorial to Muriz, a man with a lion's heart, for whom many thought his heart had clouded his reason. Every word he spoke, even two years later, has been confirmed and never denied by anyone - said Feraget.
