Foundation stone laid for the construction of Šamića Mosque in Jajce

On Friday, August 8, 2014, in the area of the Islamic Community of Jajce, Grad district, the foundation stone was laid for the renovation and construction of Hadži Muharem's Mosque or Šamića Mosque, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

Even before 1692, a mosque was built on the site of Halil-ćehaja's mesjid, which was not long-lived. A new mosque was built on that location by Hadži Muharem, which was named Šamića Mosque, after a prominent family in the mahala.

In the mid-19th century, a thorough renovation of Hadži Muharem's Mosque was carried out. It had plastered and white-painted facades with dark, evenly spaced window openings. Šamića Mosque is located directly next to the city walls in Jajce, and it is assumed that it served the soldiers guarding these walls. Hadži Muharem's – Šamića Mosque and its minaret were thoroughly renovated in 1985, and were demolished during the aggression against BiH. With the renovation-construction of this mosque, MIZ Jajce completes the renovation of the city mosques.
