Foundation stone laid for mosque in Umag

 

The construction of the Islamic Cultural Center in Umag, Croatia, officially began today with the laying of the foundation stone, confirmed Elvedin ef. Posavljak, an imam from Umag, for the BH News Agency Patria (NAP). He said that the entire ceremony took place in a wonderful atmosphere with the presence of numerous guests.

- This time we did not want to organize a big event, and therefore no one from Bosnia and Herzegovina came; they will come, God willing, when the mosque is opened. This was more of a local event – ef. Posavljak told NAP:

Otherwise, after Rijeka, which last year got one of the most beautiful mosques in Europe, the Islamic Cultural Center in Umag will be the second Islamic center located on the coast of the Croatian sea. Posavljak noted that people in this part of the Istrian Peninsula have been waiting for this moment for a full 13 years.

- Allah Almighty wanted those who opposed the construction of this center to disappear from the political scene. The entire ceremony was filmed by Croatian Television (HRT) and a report will be broadcast in their show "Prizma" – added Posavljak.

The Islamic Cultural Center in Umag will be built 400 meters from the sea, will cover more than 500 square meters, and its construction will cost around one million marks. The construction will be financed by the congregation, the diaspora, and a portion of the funds will also be provided by the Mešihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia.
