(Patria) - In the past few days, five more victims of the genocide committed in Srebrenica in the summer of 1995 have been identified at the Commemorative Center in Tuzla.
All five families who identified the victims have also given their consent for their burial, and according to the consents given so far, the remains of 11 victims will be buried at the collective funeral at the Srebrenica Memorial Center - Potočari this year.
This is certainly not the final number, considering that families who wish to bury the remains of their loved ones can decide on the final identification or consent to burial until the beginning of July, when the final preparations for the collective funeral begin, announced the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The victims identified in the past few days were identified by DNA method, after which the family members of these victims proceeded to final identification and consent to burial.
One of the victims identified in the past few days is seventeen-year-old Mujić (Omer) Beriz, born in 1978 in Zvornik. He was killed in July 1995 in the area of Sućeska near Bratunac, and his remains were exhumed in May 2023 in the municipality of Srebrenica.
Family members also identified Bašić (Adem) Midhat, born in 1973, in the village of Pobuđe, Bratunac. He was killed in the summer of 1995 in the Zvornik area, and his remains were exhumed in August 2000 from the primary mass grave Grbavci-Lažete, Zvornik. Part of his remains were also found in a secondary mass grave in Snagovo, Zvornik, in October 2004.
The family confirmed the identity of Salihović (Mehemed) Nevres, born in 1970 in Biljača, Bratunac.
He was 25 years old when he was killed, and his remains were exhumed in October 2004 from the secondary mass grave Blječeva, Bratunac. Ahmet (Ismet) Jašarević, born in 1971 in Blječeva, was also identified. He disappeared at the age of 24, in July 1995, in the area of Zeleni Jadar. His remains were found at this location years later, specifically in June 2007 during the discovery of the Zeleni Jadar mass grave, Srebrenica.
The family identified Salkić (Muharem) Ibrahim, born in 1935 in Kamenica near Zvornik. He disappeared in Potočari in 1995, and his remains were exhumed in 2002 during the discovery of a mass grave in Kamenica. Although Salkić's remains were identified in 2007, the family only found the strength this year to give their consent for the burial and final rest of this victim on July 11 at the Srebrenica Memorial Center Potočari.
