Physical Security Jobs: HV Colonel Accused of War Crimes Goes to Work in Somalia

Željko Maglov, a colonel of the Croatian Army and former commander of the 73rd Military Police Battalion, accused in the Kuline case of war crimes, has received a two-month assignment in Somalia. He signed a contract with an English company. He will provide physical and armed security services in the insecure terrain of the Horn of Africa, an area ravaged by a multi-year civil war, reports the Patria News Agency. 

Maglov left for Somalia at the beginning of last month, and his return is expected in mid-October. The court and prosecution have been informed of everything. A hearing was supposed to be held yesterday, but the summons was not served to the witness, former military policeman and basketball coach Neven Spahija, who has been in the USA for a long time. Today, the hearing was not held due to the judge's illness.

Maglov and three other military policemen, including Tvrtko Pašalić, are accused of mistreating prisoners from Nos Kalik. Maglov claims that he was not in Šibenik at all during the incriminating period, but rather at the southern front.

After the war, Maglov attended training in the USA, and before his arrest for smuggling cars, sugar, and oil at the end of the 90s, a career as a military attaché was reportedly in his sights. The case recently ended ingloriously in the Supreme Court, due to the statute of limitations. Maglov and his family settled in a basement apartment in Spinut, Split. They live quite difficultly, so his departure for work abroad is not surprising. Until last year, he had a ban on extended absence, but the court lifted the measure, allowing Maglov to travel to Somalia without problems, writes Index.
