Last interview of Judge Potparić: Bosnia's legal system is imposed, it needs to be changed

Former judge of the Supreme Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Potparić was buried yesterday at the Bare cemetery in Sarajevo.
He died at the age of 82, and will be remembered as the judge who handed down more than 2,000 years in prison, and in 1984 sentenced the leader of Serbian radicals Vojislav Šešelj, now a Hague indictee for war crimes in the former Yugoslavia, to eight years in prison.

- Šešelj attacked the constitutional, economic and social order of the former state - commented Judge Potparić many years later, after Šešelj came into the focus of world public attention.

One of the last interviews Judge Potparić gave to the Bosnian news agency Patria, in which he warned about the vagueness of laws in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which the long-serving judge assessed as a great burden on the entire legal system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

These problems are not discussed openly, Potparić warned in an interview published in February 2015, but, he said, it is more than clear that it does not bode well for the future of today's legal system of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which urgently needs to be corrected.

- The legal system of Bosnia and Herzegovina is imposed, and it is the so-called Anglo-Saxon legal system. It does not suit our country, this concept needs to be changed - warned Potparić, Patria recalls.
