Last note of Izet Nanić: Victory is near, if God wills, our Bosnia and Herzegovina will be ours!

The night before his death, in his war diary, he wrote: "Everything is at stake. I hope that I will succeed with them, and then the people. Victory is near, if God wills, it will be our BiH. I feel that I can do what I have planned. If only I had strength and luck. I have invested everything. The power went out. Good luck!“, writes the Patria news agency. 

The legendary commander of the 505th Buzim Knightly Brigade of the 5th Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Izet Nanić, died on August 5, 1995. Nanić was one of the bravest and best soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the aggression against our country.

The Croatian Army launched, 21 years ago on August 5, a major operation called Operation Storm with the aim of liberating the territory of the Republic of Croatia. The strategic goal of all units of the 5th Corps was to link up with units of the Croatian Army.

The Buzim 505th Knightly Brigade, led by Izet Nanić, then broke through enemy lines at Čorkovaća and moved towards Dvor na Uni. Just a few hours before the Croatian Army and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina linked up on the bridge over the Korana, before the final breakthrough, Izet Nanić was killed in an ambush.

Izet Nanić was born in Buzim on October 4, 1965. He completed secondary military school in Zagreb in 1984, and the Military Academy in Zagreb in 1987.

Until 1992, he worked as an active military officer in the former Yugoslav People's Army (JNA), and Nanić would become a true legend of his people after joining the defense of the country at the beginning of the Serbian aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Krajina today remembers him as one of the best soldiers of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the founder of many units that fought within the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Until 1992, Nanić was a lieutenant in the JNA in Kragujevac. At the beginning of 1992, he left the JNA and returned to Buzim. He then formed the Territorial Defense staff, and on August 1, 1992, he was appointed commander of the Buzim TO Staff.

He is the founder of the 105th Buzim Krajina Shock Brigade (later 105th BUMB - 505th Knightly mtbr). He formed special units ČSN-BSN "Hamza" and DIV "Gazije".

Posthumously, he was awarded the „Order of the Hero of the Liberation War“ in 1998 and promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. The people of Krajina erected a monument to him and his fallen brother Nevzet in their native Nanića Dolina near Buzim.
