Request submitted for suspension of Debevec, HJPC decides who will replace him as acting president

(Patria) - Regarding the bringing of the President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ranko Debevec, to the premises of the State Investigation and Protection Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SIPA), we wish to inform the public that the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the morning hours of December 19, 2023, sent a Notification to the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC BiH) informing it of the issuance of an Order to conduct an investigation against the suspect Ranko Debevec, President of the Court of BiH, the HJPC announced.

"Immediately upon receipt of the said Notification, in accordance with the competencies prescribed by the Law on the HJPC of BiH, it was forwarded to the Office of the Disciplinary Prosecutor (ODP) of the HJPC of BiH, which submitted a request for temporary suspension from duty of the President of the Court of BiH, Ranko Debevec. After the submission of the request, the automatic system DK CMS will assign a first-instance disciplinary commission of the HJPC of BiH, which will, within the legal deadline, make a decision on the request of the ODP.

Based on the decision of the first-instance disciplinary commission, the HJPC of BiH will act in accordance with the provisions prescribed by the Law on the HJPC of BiH. In the event that the decision of the first-instance disciplinary commission is suspension from the position of president of the court, the HJPC of BiH will decide on the appointment of an acting president of the Court of BiH," it added.
