Posavina Canton amended its Constitution: All constituent from midnight, scripts and languages equalized

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Assembly of Posavina Canton, at today's extraordinary session, unanimously adopted amendments to the cantonal Constitution, most of which relate to technical issues, but amendments relating to constitutionality, official languages and scripts in this canton were also adopted.

A total of 21 amendments were proposed, and significant changes have now been made.

As early as 2017, the Federal Prime Minister Fadil Novalić filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court, seeking to ensure the constitutionality of Serbs in three cantons where Croats are the majority, the equal use of Latin and Cyrillic scripts, and the recognition of the Bosnian language.

"There was full support, but for that to happen, there was a lot of effort and work, it took a lot of work to reach an agreement. I believe that all three constituent peoples have gained importance here, and that we can now honestly say that we certainly have the best Constitution in the Federation of BiH," said Blaž Župarić, President of the Assembly of Posavina Canton.

All deputies are satisfied with the decisions and adopted amendments and hope that democracy will be the foundation of our society in the future.

"Today is a great day, and I want to express my satisfaction, and this is a great political victory for all of us and for all those who participated in the adoption of the amendments to the Posavina Canton Constitution," said Senad Ahmetović, a deputy in the Cantonal Assembly, President of the Bosniak Caucus, and delegate to the House of Peoples of the FBiH.

"What makes us happy is that we have shown, as my interlocutors have already said, political maturity, and I hope that we will continue to work on the basis of that political maturity," believes Mehmed Memišević, President of the SDA and PS Caucus in the Assembly of PC.

The President of the Government of Posavina Canton also previously gave full support to the constitutional amendment.

"The Government of Posavina Canton, after receiving the opinion of all the peoples' caucuses, specifically the Croat and Bosniak caucuses, on the proposed amendments, in fact on the 21 amendments to the Constitution of Posavina Canton, and at its last session, has decided on these proposals and has finalized the proposal for amendments based on the proposal of the Ministry of Justice," said Đuro Topić, President of the Government of Posavina Canton.

The most important message for the citizens of Posavina Canton is that from tonight, from midnight, all citizens of this canton and its diaspora are equal. The decision is on the table, and implementation is pending, which in practice, as we have seen many times, rarely comes to life.
