SDP's Message from the Rally: Novo Sarajevo Must Be a Community for All of Us

By presenting candidates for councilors and the candidate for mayor, the Municipal Organization of SDP BiH Novo Sarajevo has officially begun its campaign for the upcoming local elections, it was announced from SDP BiH, reports the Patria News Agency.

The President of OO SDP BiH Novo Sarajevo, Miroslav Živanović, addressed the gathered members and sympathizers first, stating in his speech that this organization has been fully prepared for the October elections for several months.

“From this place, we send a clear message to all citizens, and that is that we want our municipality to become a community for all of us. We want to prove that we can make Novo Sarajevo tailored to all of us, that we want to solve the problems of all citizens, and not work on partial solutions in certain parts of our municipality,” said Živanović.

Samir Suljević, the holder of the SDP BiH list for the Novo Sarajevo Municipal Council, stated that the OO SDP Novo Sarajevo is entering these elections with a large number of new people on the list for the Municipal Council.

“What does not change are our positions based on anti-fascism, community, and tolerance. Unfortunately, there is a big gap between the possibilities that Novo Sarajevo offers and the grim reality it finds itself in. In Novo Sarajevo, politics is marked by a lack of morality and understanding for the economic and social conditions in which our citizens live. That is why the policies of SDP Novo Sarajevo are realistic and achievable, and offer feasible solutions,” said Suljević.

 

SDP BiH candidate for the Mayor of Novo Sarajevo Municipality, Mirsad Ćatić, said that his motivation for running was young people, who are increasingly leaving our country.

“I want to change the current situation, where children and young people will not close their eyes and will not leave us. There are 9,000 unemployed people in the municipality of Novo Sarajevo, 15,500 pensioners, as well as a large number of socially vulnerable people for whom the municipal administration believes they are not their concern. The unemployed are the primary concern of the municipality and they must be provided with the basic conditions for life. And those who fought for this city in 1992 must also be integrated into society as soon as possible,” Ćatić believes.

SDP BiH Secretary General Irfan Čengić stated that SDP candidates will not fight for their own interests.

“We will not play on the card of intimidating citizens, as those under the slogan ‘before the elections war and referendums, after the elections seats and tenders’ have been doing for years. We will fight so that no mother loses a child anymore and that no book burns anymore. We will fight for all generations,” said Čengić.

SDP BiH President Nermin Nikšić concluded the rally by stating that SDP's policies, programs, and measures are well-thought-out initiatives for all citizens.

“Today, it is a very serious matter to be a member of SDP, and especially to be a candidate for the Municipal Council in these local elections, because politics and politicians are absolutely not a favorite topic in our society. I think you have shown great courage and great responsibility as candidates,” concluded Nikšić.
