Beganović family from Glogova needs help

Suad Beganović is struggling to provide for his five-member family living in Glogova near Bratunac. He receives only 105 KM in child benefits per month, which is not enough for their survival, writes Patria.

Beganović said that he can only earn money during the summer when he works in construction, but when winter comes, he most often runs into problems. His family lacks money, even for quality food.

Selma Beganović, Suad's wife, complains the most because their two older children suffer from asthma, which is very dangerous. They do not have enough money for medication. She says they had to sell all the domestic animals they owned to pay for their children's treatment, but there hasn't been much improvement.

- A rural house without cows, sheep, or horses... is not a proper household. Those are poor families. We had all of that before. We also had goats, but now we are left without them because we had to sell the animals when our children got sick, to pay for their medicine – says Selma, who dreams of having it all again one day.

This brave mother says that from the 105 KM she receives as child benefits, she sets aside about 30 KM per month for her son's monthly bus pass, and one KM each for him and his sister for every school day, so they have money for school snacks.

- We live in the countryside and grow food for ourselves; we sow wheat, potatoes, beans, onions... but a family also needs money. Children must go to school. What we grow ourselves, we sometimes try to sell, but people are often arrogant. If they recognize that we need money, they then blackmail us. For example, one kilogram of beans costs about six or seven KM at the market, but people often offer us 3 KM. Unfortunately, very often we are in a situation where we have to agree to that price too – says Selma, adding that she does not lose hope for better days.
