Family, friends and citizens at protests: Truth for Dženan Memić

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Members of the family, friends of the murdered young man Dženan Memić, together with hundreds of citizens, are once again seeking the truth about the event in Velika aleja on February 8, 2016, through a protest march. Memić sustained injuries from which he died on February 15, 2016. 

Protest participants have yellow ribbons with the image of the deceased Dženan on their arms, as well as a banner reading: "When oppression becomes the rule, the fight for justice becomes an obligation." 

According to Dženan's father Muriz, the yellow ribbons symbolize that they feel like second-class citizens, because, as he says, there were attempts to ban today's protests, and that the Minister of Transport of the Sarajevo Canton, Mujo Fišo, refused to sign a permit for their holding.

On February 8, 2016, Memić was in the company of his girlfriend Alisa Mutap, and the manner in which he was injured remains shrouded in mystery. The Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior initially reported it as a traffic accident, but the autopsy conducted on February 16, 2016, and the findings of expert Hamza Žuja indicated it was a criminal act of murder, prompting the Ministry to change the classification of the act. 

The Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation against an unknown perpetrator for the criminal act of murder, but within a very short period, it again changed the classification of the act to a traffic accident. 

At the end of May 2016, Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović were arrested for causing a traffic accident and obstructing evidence, and they have been on trial at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo for the second year. 

The Memić family has claimed from the very beginning that Dženan was murdered and that this is the biggest case of corruption in Bosnia's judiciary. The lawyer for the Memić family, Ifet Feraget, filed criminal charges against some of the experts who changed their findings or based them on fabricated facts. He also announced criminal charges against all prosecutors who worked on this case, led by Chief Prosecutor Dalida Burzić. 

Today, the Memić family will submit a request for the dismissal of all prosecutors on this case, as well as the Chief Prosecutor of the Federal Prosecutor's Office, Zdravko Knežević, and several other prosecutors.
