Memić family calls citizens to protests on February 8 in front of the National Theatre

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The family of the murdered young man Dženan Memić, after the second acquittal handed down by the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo to Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, which overturned the indictment of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office for an alleged traffic accident, will organize the 19th protest on February 8 in front of the National Theatre in Sarajevo. 

"Dear friends... On 08.02.2020, it will be four years since the murder of our Dženan. On the occasion of the fourth anniversary and the still unresolved murder, we have decided to organize another protest gathering, the 19th in a row. As you all know, the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo on 13.01.2020 issued for the second time an acquittal for the Roma who were accused of killing Dženan in a traffic accident. It is clear to everyone that Dženan was murdered and that he did not die in a traffic accident as claimed by the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office. Our struggle has lasted four years, four years without our Dženan, four years of trying to prove something that is obvious, HE WAS MURDERED," states the Memić family.

They invite citizens to join them and give their support. 

"Let's take to the streets, fight for a better tomorrow for all of us, for our children. No one has the right to take another's life." 

The father of the murdered young man, Muriz Memić, said he will not stop fighting to find out the truth about Dženan's death.

"This is no longer just a matter for my family and me. The truth about Dženan is a question, a test of whether citizens can count on justice in this country. This is a test for the state. Moreover, if I were to back down now, it would discourage other people who are seeking justice. Many people would say, 'If Muriz couldn't fight, we won't be able to either.' And then people would start giving up in their own battles for justice. That would be a defeat for the entire society. I do not want to be someone who discourages people. I want to continue fighting. That fight has become a part of me. I don't know what my day would look like if it weren't filled with efforts to prove that my son was murdered, that someone hid the killer, and that behind the whole case are people from the judiciary," said Memić. 

The State Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into organized crime in the case of Dženan Memić, and the investigation includes several individuals. The young man, under still unclear circumstances on the night of February 8, 2016, while walking along Velika Aleja in the company of Alisa Mutap, sustained injuries from which he died on February 15, 2016. The initial autopsy finding was decisive - the injuries were caused by a blunt object. In a repeated medical expert examination, expert Vlado Marković stated that he trusted the initial autopsy finding by Hamza Žujo, which is the most credible. Marković said that Dženan had no injuries that could have resulted from a traffic accident.
