Floods in southeastern Spain, first victims recorded

(Patria) – Four people have lost their lives in the floods that have affected the southeastern parts of Spain.

The most affected region is Valencia, where two rivers have overflowed their banks, causing the evacuation of dozens of residents.

Floods have blocked roads and carried away vehicles in the province of Alicante in southeastern Spain.

The mayor of Ontinyent, also affected by the floods, stated that about 300 mm of rain fell in just 24 hours: 'We haven't seen anything like this in a whole century,' claims Jorge Rodriguez.

Schools have been closed in the affected regions, and meteorologists are warning of continued heavy rainfall.

Local residents in the most affected areas are advised to stay in their homes as bad weather conditions have caused disruptions in road, rail, and sea traffic.
