Floods in Northern England: Prime Minister Deploys Additional Units to Aid Population

British Prime Minister David Cameron announced on Sunday the deployment of additional units to assist the population affected by floods that have reached an "unprecedented" level in northern England, reports the Patria News Agency.

- I have just chaired a crisis meeting on the unprecedented floods, the British Prime Minister said on Twitter.

- Additional units will be deployed, he promised, while a unit from the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment is already participating, alongside local authorities and Red Cross volunteers, in evacuation and flood control operations.

David Cameron also stated that the overall flood control forces, criticized in recent weeks, will be re-evaluated.

- Flood defenses, both permanent and temporary, have played a crucial role, but it is clear that in some cases they were not sufficient, and we need to see if something more needs to be done, he told the BBC.

The floods are a consequence of heavy rains that have hit the area in recent days, flooding towns and villages and forcing rescuers to use rubber boats to navigate the streets. Electricity North West announced during the morning that it is working non-stop to restore electricity to 7,500 households.

Northwest England was already hit by severe floods in early December, causing hundreds of millions of euros in damage, writes Index.
