Dental Faculty and Dental Clinical Center to Merge Again, Procedure May Take Up to a Year

(Patria) - The Senate of the University of Sarajevo, at its session held on Wednesday, February 25, unanimously supported the proposal of the Dental Faculty and the Dental Clinical Center and gave its preliminary consent for them to merge again into a single member institution.

After the Senate made its decision, the entire procedure will be handled by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, which needs to form a commission tasked with evaluating the submitted Elaborate on the re-merger. After the Commission completes its part of the work, the Government of Sarajevo Canton must also give its preliminary consent, and then the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton approves everything. The entire procedure could take up to the next 12 months.

In the meantime, the issue of employee salaries and employment contracts is being resolved, following the separation of the Dental Faculty into two member institutions, which caused delays in employee salaries.

At the insistence of certain interest groups, led by the then dean of the UNSA Dental Faculty, Muhamed Ajanović, the Dental Faculty and the Dental Clinical Center were separated. Based on this, Ajanović was enabled to serve a third term as Dean of Dentistry, and he was arrested in December 2025.

He was remanded in custody for one month, which was then extended for another two months.
In the same operation, besides Ajanović, the cantonal inspector of KUIP, Dalila Hakalović, who is under restrictive measures, and the former Minister of Higher Education, Adna Mesihović, who resigned and took over as a member of the KS Assembly, and Dženita Viteškić, Assistant Minister for Higher Education, were also involved.

Ajanović is suspected of committing the criminal offense of abuse of position and authority, in connection with his third term as dean. The investigation against him has also been expanded to include some other criminal offenses.
