Retrial nearing its end: Medical expert on Dženan Memic's injuries

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A hearing in the Dženan Memic case will be held at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo on Friday, January 10, where a medical expert will present their part of the findings in the retrial of the traffic accident expert testimony. 

Both the KS Prosecutor's Office and the defense of Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, represented by lawyer Rusmir Karkin, will present their closing arguments. The father of the murdered Dženan Memic, Muriz Memic, will also present his closing arguments. This will conclude the retrial.

We remind you that the traffic accident expert report stated that there were no parameters indicating a traffic accident, and that Dženan Memic did not have the typical injuries sustained from a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.

The young man sustained injuries under still unexplained circumstances on the night of February 8, 2016, while he was with his girlfriend Alisa Murap. Memic died on February 15, 2016. The KS Prosecutor's Office changed the qualification of the crime twice, from a traffic accident to murder by an unknown perpetrator, and then back to a traffic accident. The then Chief Prosecutor of KS, Dalida Burzić, stated that the "Prosecutor's Office had gone astray in the legal qualification" and that it was a traffic accident. Precisely because of her statements about the case being heard in court and her inappropriate contact with the father of the injured young man, Muriz Memic, a disciplinary procedure was initiated against her in February 2019. At the same time, she was appointed a judge of the BiH Court, and no disciplinary measures were imposed against her. 

Based on the criminal complaint filed by the Memic family in October 2018, the KS Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into organized crime, which included several individuals. 

Muriz Memic has claimed from the very beginning that Burzić filed a false indictment and has asked the new Chief Prosecutor of KS, Sabina Sarajlija, to withdraw the indictment for a traffic accident.
