Pride of BiH: European gold for mathematician from Banja Luka Tijana Babić

Young Bosnian-Herzegovinian mathematician Tijana Babić won a gold medal at the European Mathematical Cup, held in Zagreb at the end of December, and the results were announced a few days ago, reports Patria agency.

Among 113 high school participants from all over Europe and the USA, Tijana Babić, a second-year student from the Banja Luka gymnasium, won the maximum number of points and a valuable gold medal. Second place went to the Greek Vaselios Georgiadis, and third to the mathematician from Croatia, Luka Banović.

- Anyone can be a good mathematician if they practice persistently - Tijana told Patria agency after the results were announced.

- Most people can achieve a basic level of knowledge without much effort, but with enough work, they can achieve much more. Of course, the speed of progress varies from person to person, talent plays an important role, but the most important thing is practice - she adds.

Tijana says that most students practice mathematics only as much as is enough to pass. It is true that this field may require more effort than some others, but with practice, anything can be achieved.

The European Mathematical Cup is organized by Young Talented Mathematicians from Croatia. Competitors work on tasks in their own countries, under the strict supervision of instructors, after which the solutions are sent for grading to the headquarters in Croatia.

In addition to Tijana, other BiH competitors also achieved excellent results; Amar Kurić, Azur Đonlagić, Elma Nuhanović, Admir Papić, Boris Velešević, Milica Đokić, and Dino Melunović, who also placed at the very top of the rankings.

Bosnia and Herzegovina also excelled at the European Mathematical Cup last year, when young mathematician Adisa Bolić, a student at Una-Sana College in Bihać, also won a gold medal, writes Patria.
