Privatization of Tuzla public companies annulled

The Privatization Agency of Tuzla Canton made a decision in 2001 on the privatization sale of public assets of the then Municipality of Tuzla. A legal battle lasted for almost 14 years, and the municipal authorities managed to annul the privatization of public utility companies Centralno grijanje, Vodovod i kanalizacija, Komunalac, Komemorativni centar, and Tržnice i pijace, it was announced from the Professional Service for the Mayor's Affairs and Coordination of City Services.

Mayor Jasmin Imamović and the City Public Attorney's Office challenged the privatization of the aforementioned companies with the Privatization Agency and the Government of Tuzla Canton.

The District Court in Tuzla accepted the lawsuit of the Municipality of Tuzla and declared the challenged privatization null and void and illegal. This decision was only accepted in 2013 by the Director of the Privatization Agency, Nihad Okanović, while his predecessor Zijad Hasanhodžić opposed it for years.

The annulled privatization preserved the property of the citizens of Tuzla worth around 600 million marks.
