Foundation stone laid for the construction of a new elementary school in the Sarajevo settlement of Stup

(Patria) - The foundation stone for the construction of a new elementary school was laid in the Sarajevo settlement of Stup.

The contract for the construction of the school was signed by the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality, Nermin Muzur, and the company Strabag.

The ceremony of laying the foundation stone was also attended by the Minister of Education of KS, Naida Hota-Muminović, who said that the construction of the school in Stup is a generational project, reports Vijesti.ba.

- Generations from this settlement have been waiting for this school. And we have finally reached the stage where we can launch this project and start the work. This school will have large capacities, it is a modern school that meets the contemporary needs of the educational process.

In addition to the usual classrooms for elementary school grades one through four, there are specialized laboratories, particularly for physics, chemistry, and biology. Also, there are accompanying facilities for extended stay, a school kitchen, a good school restaurant, a sports hall, and a library.

We believe this will be a vibrant place not only for students and parents but for the entire population of this part of Sarajevo - said Hota-Muminović.

Mayor Muzur emphasized that the Stup elementary school has been the most discussed topic in the previous period.

- One employee of our municipality's administration who lives here says that three generations of his family have been waiting for the construction of the school to begin. The Stup elementary school was needed even before the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially now with the construction of new parts of the Tibra settlement and Bulevar.

For many years, people talked about it, the issue was the location. Then there were legal disputes at some locations where the school was supposed to be. And about three years ago, we started the fight for the school - first, we found a location owned by Ilidža Municipality and completed all the necessary procedures.

Together with the canton, we completed all the necessary paperwork, did everything that was needed, and together with the Ministry of Education, we secured the funding for the school - stated Muzur.

And after the public procurement was completed, he points out that the foundation stone was laid today.

- Today, we officially started the work with the contractor on this elementary school. This elementary school, in its design, is planned in accordance with all pedagogical standards and all construction standards.

It is designed in accordance with the times we live in, so it will surely be among the best schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conceptual design of the school was done by the Faculty of Architecture, and then it was upgraded in cooperation with the Ministry, which provided all its recommendations for the school's appearance - added Muzur.

He emphasizes the importance of building accompanying facilities within the school.

- We will have space for a clinic, a local community center, and a multifunctional hall. This school will not have an ordinary schoolyard, but a sports hall with 500 seats, which will have the dimensions to host all sports competitions - points out Muzur.

Belma Barlov, director of the KS Construction Institute, said that the deadline for the execution of works is 24 months, but she hopes it will be completed sooner.

- However, I would not prejudge any new deadlines, the deadline stipulated by the contract is 24 months. This is one of the very important buildings in the KS area, the first such impressive building with a clinic and a sports hall since the war - stated Barlov.
