(Patria) - Poland plans to restrict traffic on its southern borders with the Czech Republic and Slovakia and introduce stricter restrictive measures in some of the more severely affected regions, the health minister announced on Wednesday.
The number of new coronavirus infections on Wednesday in Poland stands at 12,146, Adam Niedzielski told radio TOK FM.
Poland last recorded more than 10,000 new daily cases at the beginning of January, reports the dpa agency.
“We have a very dynamic increase day by day and compared to last week,” said the Polish minister.
The authorities have decided to restrict arrivals from the Czech Republic and Slovakia due to the poor epidemiological situation in those countries, Niedzielski added. Polish authorities in some regions, particularly in the northeast of the country, plan to reintroduce some recently lifted restrictive measures, possibly even closing hotels and schools, the minister said.
Poland will most likely abandon the option of covering faces in public with plastic visors or scarves, which is currently allowed as an alternative to masks.
