(Patria) - The latest operation by the Federal Police Administration (FUP), which resulted in the arrest of 15 individuals linked to corruption in the Public Company Autoceste of the Federation of BiH, has once again exposed the dark nexus of politics and crime in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although the investigation is ongoing, it is already clear that this case is much more than an ordinary criminal file – it is a systemic abuse of public resources involving political, financial, and judicial actors.
Millions Gone, Those Responsible in Custody – But Not All
The "Koridor" operation has shown that the construction of Corridor Vc, a key infrastructure project in BiH, has become a hotbed of organized crime. Among those arrested are former directors of JP Autoceste FBiH Adnan Terzić and Elmedin Voloder, as well as Ešef Džafić, Jasmin Bučo, and Zlatan Talić. Terzić, who was director from 2017 to 2021, has previously faced accusations of dubious contracts, but it is only now that judicial institutions are addressing his actions.
However, what raises suspicion of selective justice is the fact that individuals close to HDZ, such as Kristijan Milas, Ivan Rogić, and Marin Jelčić, were released after their arrest. This move confirms long-standing accusations that the judicial system in BiH does not treat all actors equally and that certain political circles, especially those close to HDZ, are protected from more serious legal consequences.
Suspicious Contracts and Million-Dollar Losses
The key segment of the investigation relates to millions in losses associated with the Vranduk-Ponirak section, where contracts were amended and supplemented in favor of certain contractors.
Instead of transparent business, public money went into private pockets, and citizens were deprived of modern transport infrastructure. Furthermore, suspicious procurements in JP Autoceste FBiH were previously uncovered, including the purchase of unused fire trucks, mowers, and multi-purpose vehicles, with a total value exceeding several million KM.
The Autoceste FBiH case raises an important question: how is it possible that individuals close to HDZ have gone unpunished, while others have been detained? Such developments suggest that the judicial system in BiH is not free from political influence, which further erodes public trust in institutions.
Furthermore, the case sheds new light on the role of Nermin Nikšić, the current Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH, who previously headed the Ministry of Transport and Communications. His silence on this matter, despite serious accusations, raises suspicions about his potential knowledge or even involvement in some of the questionable decisions. Given that millions of marks are involved, it is expected that the investigation will also cover the political patrons of the system that enabled such abuses.
What Next?
If the judicial system does not prove its impartiality, this case will be further confirmation that BiH is in the clutches of political corruption. The public, tired of constant scandals and abuse of power, demands answers and concrete sanctions. However, the question remains – will justice truly be equal for all, or will the powerful get away without consequences this time too?
