(Patria) - After failing to enter the building of the Sarajevo Canton Government, gathered citizens moved to a new location to address the cantonal premier Nihad Uk.
Uk arrived accompanied by several members of the Intervention Unit of the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton at the Austrian House in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Ciglane, where a press conference on measures against air pollution in the Bosnian capital is being held.
A group of citizens opposes the announced basketball match between the clubs Dubai (United Arab Emirates) and Israel's Hapoel, as they believe that an Israeli club should not be allowed to play in our country due to the crimes Israel committed in Gaza. Otherwise, the Sarajevo Canton Government claims it is not the organizer of the event but does not want to cancel hosting the match either.
Earlier, citizens entered the building of the Sarajevo Canton Government, but police blocked their further passage, so they remained at the entrance, and then set out to search for Uk.
In the meantime, Uk spoke out via Facebook, stating that the genocide against the Palestinian people "cannot and must not be morally acceptable to any citizen of this country who knows what suffering, persecution, and systematic destruction are. Israel is today implementing a brutal policy of apartheid and extermination."
He noted that he is the first politician to offer financial aid to Palestine and said that the Sarajevo Canton Government donated 300,000 KM for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
"This is what I would say to the group of citizens protesting in front of the building of the Sarajevo Canton Government, if they want me to address them. I invited them to a meeting, they refuse. I understand their request to cancel the match, but a permit for a European sports event is not support for genocide. Our support is directed exclusively towards Palestine, and it will remain so," Uk concluded.
