Police near Tuzla detain two Hungarians on suspicion of espionage, OSA also involved in the case

(Patria) - Two Hungarian nationals have been detained in the Tuzla area on suspicion of espionage in the Tuzla Canton (TK).

The detained are Gyorgy Barath and Jozsef Gelencser, who were suspected of being Hungarian intelligence officers, Detektor has learned from police sources.

Barath, in a conversation with Detektor, denied the reasons for the detention and refused further conversation. Gelencser has no publicly available contacts.

According to data on Barath's LinkedIn profile, he is the director and owner of the company Barath & Partners, which provides security consulting and private investigation services.

As can be seen, a reference to his company was also published by the European Association of Investigators on its website.

According to data from his LinkedIn profile, Barath worked as a counterintelligence officer from 1979 to 1989, while from 1990 to 1994 he was a senior officer in the Hungarian intelligence service.

It is also claimed that he attended one of the universities within the national defense system.

The Ministry of Interior of TK announced today that a report was received yesterday from a citizen pointing to the suspicious behavior of two unknown persons moving along a city street in Banovići.

"Following the report, police officers from the competent police station acted and, after checks, determined that they were Hungarian nationals with initials G.B. (1952) and J.G. (1962), who, according to their statement, entered Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 20, 2025," the Ministry of Interior of TK stated.

After being detained, they were handed over to the jurisdiction of the Field Center of the Service for Foreigners' Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA) of Bosnia and Herzegovina was also informed about everything.

According to Detektor's police sources, they entered the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Karakaj border crossing near Zvornik, and were detained in the Banovići area, during which recording equipment and passports were confiscated from them.

The detained individuals were later released, and their equipment and passports were returned to them.
