Police officer who killed a woman in Tuzla had previous issues with alcohol, medical check-ups not conducted despite carrying weapons

(Patria) - The director of the Tuzla Police Administration, Dževad Korman, today revealed details of the brutal murder committed on Wednesday evening in a shopping center by an active police officer using his service pistol.

Police officer Elvis Ćustendil (51) killed Amra Kahrimanović (52), firing multiple bullets into her. The woman died at the scene from her injuries, while Ćustendil left after the murder but was soon arrested.
Korman said that Ćustendil was on annual leave and did not comply with the obligation to deposit his service pistol. Ćustendil has been automatically suspended.

"Up to this moment, we have no information that Elvis had conflicts or problems with colleagues. Elvis Ćustendil was disciplined for a traffic accident he caused under the influence of alcohol, and for those reasons he was sanctioned," said Korman.

He emphasized that they have no data on the motives for the attack, except that Ćustendil consumed alcohol in the bar where Kahrimanović worked.

"We will work on establishing all the facts and circumstances of this criminal offense," he stated.

Ćustendil was soon to retire, and for the past few years he worked in the Operations Center as an operational duty officer.

Korman said that the last medical check-up for police officers was conducted in 1993.

“Candidates sent to the Police Academy undergo a medical check-up for all candidates in all cases, as prescribed. The last medical check-up I attended was in 1993. I am trying to organize medical check-ups for all employees, but I have not encountered understanding due to the allocation of significant financial resources. From this Government, funds for medical check-ups for all employees have been planned for this year,” Korman pointed out.

He said that the responsibility of his immediate supervisor in the Tuzla Canton Police Administration will also be investigated.

The brother of the murdered Amra Kahrimanović told Faktor that the police had already intervened in the cafe and taken away a man who was in the company of Ćustendil. However, he remained in the cafe and continued consuming alcohol. Then he killed Amra by firing multiple bullets into her.
