(Patria) - Member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of Tuzla Canton (TK) from Živinice, Jasmin Merdanović (2002), is one of those who, without hesitation, were the first to rush to help the residents of the Tuzla Pensioners' Home, which was engulfed in a large fire last night.
Merdanović, along with firefighters, entered the smoke-filled premises to evacuate the residents of the Home and provide them with necessary assistance. Due to the dense concentration of smoke and high temperatures, the rescue operation was extremely difficult.
The immobility of many residents, who required immediate assistance, presented a particularly challenging circumstance. Other rescue teams soon arrived.
Despite the risk to his own life, Merdanović continued to help until he himself had to seek medical attention due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
After being treated at the University Clinical Center (UKC) Tuzla, his health condition stabilized, and he is currently recovering at home.
According to the latest information, 12 people died in last night's fire at the Tuzla Pensioners' Home, while 35 were injured – including firefighters and police officers.
