Procedure initiated for inclusion of Sarajevo on UNESCO World Heritage List

Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka, accompanied by his associates, met with members of the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of BiH, headed by Chairman Goran Milojević, regarding the initiation of an endeavor to include Sarajevo, as a city entity, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, reports Patria agency.

This marks the official launch of the initiative and the commencement of a process during which a credible application will be submitted to this international organization.

During the meeting, Skaka informed the Commission members about the decision to immediately form a working group within the City Administration. This group will be tasked with establishing a clear roadmap for fulfilling all necessary prerequisites and ensuring intensive cooperation with the Commission for the Preservation of National Monuments of BiH and the State Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO.

- The city on the Miljacka has long transcended national borders, becoming a regional hub and center, as well as a European partner. Its culture, history, and symbolism are an inseparable part of the European spirit and the overall civilizational value that unites East and West. Therefore, I am convinced that the process initiated today will ultimately be successful, granting Sarajevo the place it deserves within the framework of world civilization - emphasized the Mayor.

Sarajevo - a unique symbol of universal multiculturalism - a permanently open city, has been on the UNESCO tentative list of World Cultural Heritage since September 1, 1997.
