By Muamer Bandić, member of the Party for BiH Presidency and representative in the KS Assembly
Those in political power in Sarajevo Canton are blinded by hatred and arrogance with only one goal: to win personal seat wars. Instead of doing their job and building the country, they are putting us in situations where key cultural institutions of our country are on the verge of closure.
The worst part of all is that these people place themselves above the laws they themselves wrote and proposed, so they do not respect them or apply them partially, according to their narrow, personal, or party interests.
They came to power through legal anarchy, and it will remain the only characteristic of their rule until the end of their term. They talk to us publicly about legal certainty, yet with every move they produce legal uncertainty. Moreover, they are not interested in the consequences their arrogance has on the lives and work of the employees of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Manipulators on social networks and online fighters for likes are not interested in whether our country will be left without this key cultural institution, because books are obviously not needed by them. It is much easier than reading books and learning to take pictures for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, or to burn budget funds on populist concerts by pop stars. Then, the same people who manage the Canton will be astonished tomorrow and make clumsy excuses why anarchy reigns on the streets of Sarajevo.
It is devastating for our society that Sarajevo Canton is unwilling to allocate the necessary funds for the operation of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a time when the City of Sarajevo is allocating enormous funds for Severina's New Year's concert. It is easier for the authorities in Sarajevo Canton to buy popularity with other people's money than to roll up their sleeves and do their job.
The angels and mentors from Mostar and Banja Luka will be rightfully proud of their Sarajevo partners because they have succeeded in what Karadžić's phalanxes' shells failed to do on August 25, 1992: to close the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The citizens of Sarajevo must be aware that a wrong vote in the elections kills the future of our children and our country more effectively than any bullet or shell fired from the hills. This policy of the KS Government towards the NUL BiH is not only cultural genocide but also a symbolic, collective suicide of a nation!
