See how it was on the promotional ride of the tourist train Sarajevo - Vareš

(Patria) - The Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina promoted today the first tourist train on the route Sarajevo - Vareš - Sarajevo.



It is a joint project of the Railways of the Federation of BiH, the Municipality of Vareš and the Tourist Board of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, aimed at promoting the natural beauty, rich cultural and historical heritage, and local gastronomy of this region.



- I warmly greet you and wish to share with you the joy of launching the first tourist train Sarajevo - Vareš - Sarajevo. Our desire is that the Railway, as a service for all citizens, serves to promote the natural beauty and develop the tourist potential of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In this sense, we are developing ideas for establishing other lines that would further contribute to the same goals. The Municipality of Vareš, with its natural beauty and rich history, is almost a national park and has enormous potential to attract guests from all over the world.



We are pleased that, through the introduction of special tourist trains, we will contribute to the promotion of this region, for both domestic and foreign tourists, especially during the summer season.

The Sarajevo - Vareš railway line was neglected for a long time until last year when the company Adriatic Metals appeared with a need to transport cargo by rail. Through joint efforts, the line was restored and cargo transport began.



Today we had the first promotional ride on the tourist train, and we hope that in the coming period this line will reach its full potential - said the acting Chairman of the Management Board - General Director of ŽFBiH, Mirza Hadžibegić.

The Sarajevo - Vareš railway line is 50 kilometers long. It passes through 20 tunnels and over 11 bridges. Part of it runs through the Stavnja River valley, through a protected nature park.



The tourist train Sarajevo - Vareš consists of an old diesel-hydraulic locomotive and three Swedish carriages with a total of 180 seats.

It is primarily intended for tourists coming to BiH who, in addition to the usual tourist attractions, want to visit and see something a little different, as well as for organized groups of pupils and students for outdoor school and history lessons.



Given that near the Vareš Railway Station there is a hiking trail leading to Perun, it is expected that a large number of hiking societies will use this train, as well as companies that want to organize gatherings for their employees.
