Podžić and Sattler: Importance of Political Dialogue and Reducing Tensions

(Patria) - Minister of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić received in an official visit the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the EU Special Representative in BiH Johann Sattler.

The interlocutors discussed the current political situation in the country. They emphasized the importance of political dialogue and reducing tensions. Both agreed that threats of unilateral actions, especially regarding the Armed Forces of BiH, are unacceptable and undermine the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister Podžić took the opportunity to thank Ambassador Sattler for the support that the European Union provides to the Armed Forces of BiH, particularly through training and joint exercises with EUFOR, as well as projects in the field of demining and disposal of surplus ammunition, weapons and mine-explosive devices. Sattler praised the cooperation of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of BiH with EU institutions, primarily through EUFOR, which is an important element in strengthening security and stability in the country. In this regard, the extension of the executive mandate of Operation "Althea", in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolution, was welcomed. It was also emphasized that the EU will remain committed to supporting a secure environment in BiH for all citizens.

The meeting also highlighted the important role of the AF BiH in providing assistance to civilian institutions throughout the country, especially in cases of natural disasters, such as fires and floods. It was particularly emphasized that the AF BiH played an extremely important role in helping the population during the major floods of 2014. Also, as particularly important, the role of the AF BiH in preventing a further humanitarian crisis last winter was highlighted, by quickly setting up military tents and engineering the migrant camp "Lipa" near Bihać.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Defence of BiH Kemal Korjenić, as well as the Political Advisor to the EU Special Representative and EUFOR Thomas Widrich.
