REMINDER: Even the Government of Canada does not support January 9 as the Day of the RS Entity

The Government of Canada, through the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, sent clear messages.

"Please be
assured that Canada is firmly committed to the General Framework Agreement for Peace and to preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with international law. As a member of the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council, Canada supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in its development as a stable, sustainable, democratic, multi-ethnic state, encourages it to cooperate peacefully with its neighbors, and strongly supports its path towards Euro-Atlantic integration.

We are aware of the discriminatory decision of the Republika Srpska entity regarding January 9, despite the decision of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which ruled the celebration of January 9 as the entity's day unconstitutional. In the communiqué of the Steering Board of the Peace Implementation Council, Canada and other members once again firmly reiterated that the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina are final and binding and demanded from all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina the mandatory implementation of the Constitutional Court's decision".

Thanking the Government of Canada for its continued support for truth, justice, and the culture of remembrance of the aggression and genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Institute for Research on Genocide Canada once again reminds the world public that it is shameful in the era of democracy, protection of human rights and freedoms, in the heart of a united Europe, after "Never again!" after the Holocaust,
more than twenty years after the largest crime in Europe after the Second World War, the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the genocide against Bosniaks, to celebrate the day of the Republika Srpska entity.

For all patriots and friends of truth and justice in the world, January 9 reminds of the horror of aggression and genocide and the attempt to destroy the state of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina assessed that the celebration of January 9 as the day of the RS entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina is not in accordance with the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Venice Commission gave an opinion that the choice of celebrating January 9 as the entity's day was motivated by feelings and events significant for only one people - the Serbs, while other communities consider it a painful memory. "The Declaration adopted on January 9, 1992, began the implementation of the plan against the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the implementation of genocidal aggression.

The entire
military and political leadership of the Bosnian Serbs at that time was convicted of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. We call on the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina to react and impose sanctions against the organizers of the celebration of January 9 as the entity's day, due to the violation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We call on the Bosnian coalition in and outside Bosnia and Herzegovina to seriously consider the need for organized, institutional, and systematic lobbying for truth, justice, and the culture of remembrance", stated the Institute for Research on Genocide Canada.
