Flag raised on Hum marks start of Bosnia and Herzegovina Independence Day celebrations

(Patria) - The marking of March 1 - Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, began this morning with the raising of the state flag on Sarajevo's Hum hill, accompanied by the national anthem.

The ceremony was attended by, among others, Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović, the chairperson and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The ceremony was also attended by representatives of all levels of government and citizens.

March 1, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is celebrated on the occasion of the successfully conducted referendum on the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina, held on February 29 and March 1, 1992. At that time, 2,073,568 voters cast their ballots (turnout of 63.7 percent of citizens with voting rights in BiH). 

As many as 99.7 percent of those who went to the polls voted for independence.
