Indictment filed against taxi driver for smuggling illegal migrants

The BiH Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against Mahir Nuhić (born 1985) who is accused of transporting migrants who voluntarily left the Centre for Reception and Accommodation of Asylum Seekers in Delijaš from Sarajevo to the border with the Republic of Croatia.

The accused is charged with having, on 28 November 2017, with the intent to gain unlawful property benefit, picked up 5 persons of Afro-Asian origin in his taxi vehicle in the centre of Sarajevo, knowing they were migrants who had illegally entered and resided in BiH, and who had voluntarily left the Centre for Reception and Accommodation of Asylum Seekers in Delijaš near Trnovo, and transported them towards Bihać for a fee of 200 euros, which he had collected in advance.

Border Police of BiH officers stopped the vehicle in Ripač and discovered illegal migrants without valid travel documents, who were returned to the Centre for Reception and Accommodation of Asylum Seekers.

The accused is charged with transporting smuggled persons in the territory of BiH and committing the criminal offense of human smuggling under Article 189 of the Criminal Code of BiH.

The indictment has been forwarded to the BiH Court.
