Indictment filed against Milenko Karlice for crimes against humanity

The Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the BiH Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against Karlic Milenko, born 01/29/1963 in Bosanski Novi, a citizen of BiH and the Republic of Serbia, reports bh. news agency Patria.

The accused is charged with, in the period from May to September 1992, as part of a widespread and systematic attack by the Army of Republika Srpska BiH, Territorial Defense, military police members, and paramilitary formations on the civilian population, together with other persons, committing persecution of persons of Bosniak nationality from the hamlets of Ekići and Alići, through killings, forced displacement of the population, and torture.

He is charged that in June 1992, together with a group of over twenty members of military formations, they launched an attack on the civilian population of Bosniak nationality in the hamlets of Maslovare, Alići, and Ekići villages. On their way there, they killed one person of Bosniak nationality. Upon arrival at the settlement, they began expelling civilians from their homes, during which two persons of Bosniak nationality were killed. All the civilians found were taken in columns to a house, where the separated men were beaten with hands, feet, and various objects all over their bodies, while their wives and children watched and listened.

According to the indictment, the accused is charged that, on his order, the women and children separated from the aforementioned columns were crammed into tractors and taken towards the settlement of Urije, while the men were taken to the local Muslim cemetery where the accused ordered them to dig a mass grave, and ordered armed persons known to him and other members of the Territorial Defense to shoot at the civilians, which they did together with him.

During the execution, more than 20 civilians of Bosniak nationality were killed, after which their bodies were buried.

The exhumation of the mentioned grave revealed and identified six bodies of killed civilians of Bosniak nationality, while some bodies were never found, because, according to the collected evidence, most of the bodies of the killed were dug up in 1996, transported to the confluence of the Japra and Sana rivers, where they were thrown, and from which three bodies have been found and identified to date.

The accused is charged with committing the criminal offense of Crimes Against Humanity under Article 172, Paragraph 1, in conjunction with Article 29, and all in conjunction with Article 180, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The indictment has been forwarded to the Court of BiH.
