Indictment filed against HVO commander for war crimes in Mostar in 1993

(Patria) - The County State Attorney's Office in Split, after conducting an investigation, has filed an indictment against a 60-year-old Croatian citizen accused of war crimes against the civilian population in Mostar and its surroundings during 1993.

The accused is charged by the indictment with attacking Bosniak civilian population in Mostar and its surroundings from the beginning of May to the end of 1993, during the conflict between the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a commander of a platoon in the Anti-Terrorist Unit (ATJ) of the HVO.

The prosecution accuses the 60-year-old of participating with other members of the ATJ, with threats and humiliation, in the physical abuse, beating, and killing of detainees in a camp, as well as in the expulsion, arrest, and taking of civilians to camps.

The State Attorney's Office of the Republic of Croatia (DORH) states that the case was taken over from the competent authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
