SARAJEVO, (Patria) - By moving the clock forward one hour, summer time begins on the night from Saturday to Sunday. Clocks should be moved from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. Winter time lasts until the last weekend in March, when summer time begins.
The time change is usually done on the night between Saturday and Sunday to avoid causing major problems for the working population.
The transition to summer and winter time was first recorded in 1916 in northern European countries for energy savings, as the period of daylight is "shifted" from early morning hours to the evening.
Summer time in the former Yugoslavia was introduced on March 27, 1983. Since 2002, the European Union, as well as other European countries, have determined that summer time begins on the last Sunday in March and ends on the last Sunday in October.
The clock change was introduced with the explanation that it "extends" the day, enables savings in electricity consumption, increases productivity, improves people's adaptation, and makes the workday more efficient.
The practice of changing the clock twice a year, at the end of March forward by one hour and moving the clocks back in October by one hour, should soon become history, as the European Parliament recently supported a directive proposal to abolish the semi-annual clock change at the EU level from 2021, leaving member states to decide on choosing summer or winter time.
