(Patria) - A peaceful protest was held today in Tuzla, as on every 11th of the month, by the mothers of Srebrenica, sending a message that they will not give up seeking the truth about the hidden remains of their killed sons, husbands, brothers, nor justice for their killers. This July 11th marks the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, and many victims are still being searched for.
"We will not give up seeking justice for the perpetrators of the genocide against the Bosniaks of Srebrenica. As long as any one of us is alive, and our children, we will not give up. These are days when we almost daily mark the anniversary of some crime committed against Bosniaks and hold collective funeral prayers.
We are preparing for the funeral prayer on July 11th, when we mark 30 years since the genocide. Currently, we have 10 identified bodies of the killed ready for the funeral prayer. What worries us is the fact that we have more than 150 identified remains of those killed in the genocide, whose identification has been confirmed, but families do not want to give consent for their burial due to the small number of found remains," says Nura Begović, president of the Association "Women of Srebrenica".
As she stated in an interview for Politicki.ba, there is not a day when some anniversary of a crime in Podrinje is not marked or a funeral prayer for the killed victims is not held.
"The worst part is that we dig up the killed, while their killers, thanks to the domestic judiciary, walk freely through this country and enjoy the crimes they committed. Prosecutors must know that our patience is running out," Begović states.
Next week, on May 15th, the Organizing Committee for marking the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide will adopt the final program.
From the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was confirmed this week that consent for the burial of identified genocide victims can be given until the beginning of July.
The Institute appealed to family members who were among the first to bury their loved ones to contact the Institute so that exhumation can be carried out, i.e., to add subsequently found and identified remains to the graves.
