US tariff war against EU, Canada and Mexico begins

WASHINGTON, (Patria) - At midnight, measures imposed by official Washington on European Union countries, Mexico and Canada came into effect, world agencies report.

The US begins charging additional customs tariffs on imported steel and aluminum from these countries, as a form of pressure.

All this is happening while trade negotiations are ongoing, and the US, following the idea of President Donald Trump, is trying to extract better solutions for itself through pressure.

- We hope to continue negotiations with Canada, Mexico and the European Commission because there are issues that need to be resolved - said US Trade Secretary Wilbur Ross.

He did not specify what the EU, Canada and Mexico could do to have the tariffs lifted.

However, what is certain is that the European Union is also introducing countermeasures, as will Mexico and Canada. It has already been determined which duties on goods from the US the European Commission will introduce, and they will come into effect tonight at midnight.

Mexico has also introduced new, higher tariffs on goods it imports from the US.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refused to meet with the US president due to the unfair pressure exerted by the US, and his country will also introduce countermeasures.
