54th Sarajevo Poetry Days Begin

Sarajevo Mayor Ivo Komšić today welcomed participants of the 54th Sarajevo Poetry Days at the City Hall during the ceremonial opening, an event of significance for the City of Sarajevo, reports the Patria news agency.  

This significant international event, organized by the Association of Writers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will be held from October 27 to 31, when it will close with the awarding of the Bosnian Stećak recognition. It will gather more than 50 prominent BiH poets, as well as the most significant literary creators from the region, Europe, and the world.

"In my capacity as mayor, I have always supported this prestigious literary event, which significantly contributes to promoting the city of Sarajevo and its cultural and literary traditions and values," said Komšić, and, building on the words of the President of the Association of Writers of BiH, Dževad Karahasan, he emphasized that "poetry can help save us from human poverty."

The international literary event Sarajevo Poetry Days was launched in 1962, with the aim of preserving and improving the literary-aesthetic and literary-ethical standards of the written word in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the City Administration announced.
