Reconstruction of Kovači and Ploča streets begins

SARAJEVo, (Patria) - Works have begun on the reconstruction of Kovači and Ploča streets, on the section from Čekrčijina mosque to the Alija Izetbegović Museum, spanning 515 meters. This is a project worth 413,905.57 convertible marks, entirely funded by the Old Town Sarajevo Municipality.

Kovači Street is one of the busiest streets in the Old Town, connecting to Ploča Street and further to the hillside settlements of the municipality. The road surface was constructed from granite cubes, and due to years of motor vehicle use and the impact of surface water penetrating the road structure, the base was frequently washed out, leading to road subsidence. Potholes appeared on the surface, particularly pronounced in the winter. To prevent further deterioration of the road, increase the safety of all traffic participants, and repair the cobblestones, the Municipality urgently undertook activities, prepared a study, and organized activities for the project's implementation.

The planned works include removing the stone cube surface, storing it, and reusing undamaged granite cubes after cleaning and preparation for reinstallation. If necessary, the replacement of the base layer with an average thickness of 40 cm is planned. The contractor is the company "DINALSA" d.o.o., and the deadline for completing the works is 120 calendar days.
