Action Plan for Taking Over Complete Airspace Above BiH Underway

Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH, Slavko Matanović, visited the headquarters of the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) and met with the Director General of this institution, Frank Brenner. The acting director of the BiH Air Traffic Services Agency (BHANSA), Davorin Primorac, also attended the meeting, reports the Patria News Agency.

During the meeting, the results achieved so far in the implementation of the BiH Airspace Management Strategy were summarized, the first phase of which was completed with BHANSA taking over traffic control up to an altitude of 9900 meters.

It was stated that the approach of taking over control up to this level is appropriate for the second phase of this Strategy as well, i.e., taking over control of the airspace above 9900m, which will be a far greater challenge and responsibility, given that over 90% of air traffic occurs at this level.

Matanović informed Brenner that the Ministry has initiated the formation of a new BHANSA Council, which was confirmed by the Council of Ministers of BiH, and a competition for the appointment of the Management Board has been announced, which is nearing completion. In this way, BHANSA will get a management that will enable BHANSA to take on the role of the main actor in the second phase of the Strategy, with the full political and expert support of the Council of Ministers of BiH and the relevant ministry.

In this regard, the development of an Action Plan for taking over the upper level of BiH airspace has begun, which is also an obligation defined by the Conclusion of the House of Representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Brenner expressed full support for the development and implementation of the Action Plan and offered Eurocontrol's support in this endeavor. He announced a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina at the beginning of next year, by which time the Action Plan will be harmonized and presented to the House of Representatives and the BiH public, it was announced from the relevant ministry.
