Election silence begins

The election campaign for the 2014 general elections in BiH, which officially began on September 12, ended this morning at 07:00 when election silence commenced.

The election silence period lasts until the closing of polling stations. The general elections in BiH will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014, and are being conducted for: the BiH Presidency, the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, the President and Vice-Presidents of Republika Srpska, the National Assembly of RS, and the cantonal assemblies in the Federation of BiH. 17 candidates have been registered for the BiH Presidency, of which ten candidates are for the Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency, four for the Croat member, and three for the Serb member.

A total of 98 political entities are participating in the elections - 50 political parties, 24 coalitions, and 24 independent candidates. There are a total of 7,748 candidates, of which 3,276 or 42 percent are women and 4,472 or 58 percent are men.

A total of 3,278,908 voters have been registered for the 2014 general elections. There will be a total of 5,401 polling stations and 270 mobile teams. Polling stations will be open on election day from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
