Second phase of water supply network reconstruction in Sarajevo Canton begins

The project of repairing the water supply network in the Sarajevo Canton area is in full swing. The management of KJKP VIK has given priority sections for the reconstruction of the water supply network in the Sarajevo Canton area, and the funds have been secured from water fees from the Ministry of Communal Economy and Infrastructure, through the Municipalities. The project of repairing – reconstructing the water supply network began at the location from Skenderija to Vijećnica. This very demanding project is divided into two phases, as follows:

- First phase: section Most Drvenija – Vijećnica (divided into five sections)
- Second phase: section Skenderija – most Drvenija (divided into five sections)

Work is underway on the first phase of the water supply network reconstruction. The deadline for the execution of works is 90 days for the entire project. This project plans to reconstruct 980 meters of pipeline with a diameter of DN 400 (section Skenderija - Drvenija) and 960 meters of pipeline with a diameter of DN 300 and DN 200 (section Drvenija - Vijećnica). The value of the project is 1.1 million KM. The contractor is Mibral Sarajevo.

On Monday, August 1, the first section of the first phase of the water supply network reconstruction on the Drvenija – Vijećnica route was completed. During the mentioned works, 190 meters of a very old and dilapidated pipeline with a diameter of DN 300, which had water losses in the form of leaks at every joint, was reconstructed.

On August 2, 2016, after the completion of laying the temporary water line, work began on the reconstruction of the water supply network on the second section, from Most Ćumurije to Latinska ćuprija. Here, too, it is a cast iron pipeline built in the 1960s.

This pipeline will be replaced with a new ductile iron pipeline, also with a diameter of DN 300. Given that work is again taking place in a part of the city that has only one traffic lane and another that serves for tram traffic, occasional traffic jams are to be expected.

- We hereby appeal to our fellow citizens of Sarajevo Canton for understanding and patience, given that this is a very significant project of repairing the water supply system. The contractor Mibral, under the supervision of KJKP VIK Sarajevo, is truly doing everything to burden the traffic lanes, which are needed for the transport of materials and maneuvering of construction machinery, as little as possible during the execution of works - said Nezir Hadžić, director of KJKP Vodovod i kanalizacija d.o.o. Sarajevo.

The second section of the first phase of reconstruction includes the replacement of approximately 200 meters of pipeline with a diameter of DN 300 (indicated on the sketch with a thicker red color). The deadline for the execution of works on this section is 10 days, if there are no major problems.
