Fight for Olympic Points Begins at European Judo Open Sarajevo 2023

(Patria) - The European Judo Open Sarajevo 2023, technically organized by the Judo Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, began today with competitions in the -48, -52, -57 and -63 kg categories for women and -60, -66 and -73 kg for men.

For the third time in its history, the national federation of our country is hosting a competition that awards points for the world ranking list, and thus for qualification for the Olympic Games, which will be held next year in Paris.

A total of 238 competitors from 30 countries will take part in the European Judo Open Sarajevo 2023, and the colors of our homeland will be defended by 19 judokas (11 men and nine women).

Our selection will be led by the best Bosnian female judoka, Larisa Cerić, who currently holds a place on the world ranking list that guarantees her participation in the Paris Olympics, but she must remain there until the end of this cycle.

The president of the organizing committee of the European Judo Open Sarajevo 2023 and coach of our best judokas, Prof. Dr. Branislav Crnogorac, emphasized that Larisa Cerić takes on the role of favorite in the +78 kg category, but also that he expects a lot from the Samardžić sisters, Aleksandra and Anđela, as well as from Toni Miletić.

The opening ceremony of the European Judo Open is scheduled for today at 4:00 PM, after which the final block of the first competition day and the fight for medals will follow.
