Ed Vulliamy, whose photos in '92 shocked the world, paid tribute to the victims of Omarska camp

A commemorative gathering was held today at the site of the Omarska concentration camp in Prijedor, marking the 24th anniversary of the camp's existence and the beginning of the closure of the camp where thousands of Prijedor Bosniaks and Croats were imprisoned from May to August 1992, Patria reports.

Journalist Ed Vulliamy, whose photographs in 1992 circled the world and highlighted the horrific existence of the infamous camp, also arrived at the anniversary commemoration. Florence Hartmann, former spokesperson for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, was also among those present.

More than 700 innocent people were killed at this site. Among the prisoners were 37 women and 28 minors. Some were no older than 14 years.

The organizers of this sad gathering are the Association of Camp Survivors of BiH, the Association of Camp Survivors Banja Luka, the Association of Camp Survivors Prijedor '92, and the Association of Camp Survivors Kozarac.

Jasmin Mešković, president of the Association of Camp Survivors of BiH, followed by Sabahudin Garibović, and Mirsad Duratović, president of the Association of Camp Survivors, addressed the attendees – surviving camp inmates, family members of the murdered, friends, and neighbours who came to pay their respects to the victims.
