Plenković: We have nothing against Komšić, but he lacks legitimacy and was not elected by the majority of the Croatian people

(Patria) - Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, when asked by journalists, explained why he was not with members of the EU delegation at the BiH Presidency this morning.

"My move was in no way aimed at expressing any disrespect towards the institution of the Presidency; on the contrary, thanks to Croatia, this European team is in Sarajevo, and it is not by chance that it is in this status and this early in the year. My move relates to a problem that has existed in BiH since 2006. It recurred in 2010, recurred in 2018, and recurred in 2022, and it concerns the election of the Croatian member of the Presidency," said Plenković.

He reiterated Croatia's position that Komšić "was elected by the majority will of votes from another people, not the Croatian people".

"We as Croatia are strongly against it, not because we have anything against Komšić and the Presidency, but because we believe it is important for equality in BiH to be reflected in the electoral process as well. For the Croatian government and institutions, he is a member of the Presidency representing the Croatian people, but without the legitimacy and majority will of the Croatian people, and therefore we did not receive him, nor did we visit him in that capacity here in Sarajevo," Plenković stated.

Responding to comments that he had met with Komšić before, he said they had met informally, and asked Komšić "how he, in his words, is Putin in New York".

In the end, he said that his policy towards BiH is consistent, and that he came to help BiH with all his heart.
