Planned construction of a series of facilities at Veliko Polje on Igman

(Patria) - In order to improve the social and ecological functions of forests and forest land, at the initiative of the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton and KJP "Sarajevo – Forests" Ltd. Sarajevo, the Government of Sarajevo Canton adopted a Decision supporting activities on the implementation of the Project for the improvement of the Veliko Polje picnic area.

Aware of the fact that we are surrounded by incredible natural wealth, with a lot of potential, starting from economic, sports-recreational, health, and all together classified as a certain type of tourism, we are determined to manage this natural wealth in the best possible way, taking into account all its potentials, while at the same time protecting it and reducing negative impacts on nature and the environment.

Igman is particularly known for the Veliko Polje locality, which is one of the favorite picnic spots throughout the year. Therefore, it is very important to enrich the infrastructure content and bring it even closer to users of all ages and interests.

The project plans to build a series of facilities for visitors to Veliko Polje to enable them a better and more pleasant stay in these areas, as well as to provide places for setting up barbecues in terms of preventive activities for forest fire protection. A series of refrigerators, barbecue fireplaces, trash cans, and designated parking spaces will be provided in this area. It should be particularly emphasized that furniture, i.e., arranged spaces with play facilities for the youngest visitors of Igman, will be built.

By enriching the facilities of "Veliko Polje", the number of visitors will certainly significantly increase, who are already noticed in large numbers in this location in the current environment due to the climate and clean air, diverse topography, beautiful landscape, sports that require steep slopes or snow...

The total content will be available to all visitors, and what will be required of them in return is to leave it as they found it upon arrival, which is why continuous work will be done to raise awareness about the importance of mountains and a clean environment, but also to monitor the newly installed infrastructure by engaging eco-rangers and forest guards who will be assigned a treated area.
