(Patria) - Prime Minister of Zenica-Doboj Canton Nezir Pivić spoke in his office with the leaders of the Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) Zenica,
President Haris Adilović and Chief Kenan Hrustanović, who informed him about the activities and functioning of one of the oldest organizations in Zenica.
The GSS leaders emphasized that members work on a voluntary basis and that
support is necessary for the procurement of equipment so that rescue operations
can be carried out safely and efficiently.
They emphasized that GSS Zenica has existed since 1971 and currently has about
80 active members, including 11 registered rescuers, trainee rescuers, members trained for search operations and helicopter rescue, ski instructors, mountain guides, alpinists, drone pilots, and doctors. The pride of Zenica's GSS is the widely known dog Atos, who, together with the rescue team, participated in the rescue operation for survivors of the earthquake that struck Turkey in February last year.
Prime Minister Pivić thanked the GSS members for their dedication to saving human lives, often risking their own, and wished them much success in their future work. He emphasized that the cantonal authorities are striving to better organize civil protection structures so that they are ready at all times to respond and save human lives.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection Adnan Šabani, who by position is also the commander of the Cantonal Civil Protection Headquarters.
He emphasized that the formation of a USAR team for rescue from rubble is underway, and that funds have already been planned for the procurement of sophisticated equipment worth 170,000 BAM. Minister Šabani announced that regulations should soon be adopted to organizationally structure the USAR team, which will certainly include experienced rescuers from GSS Zenica in its ranks.
