(Patria) - Prime Minister Nezir Pivić and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDK) Mirza Mušija hosted a reception today for the team from the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica, which won first place at the IV State Competition in Simulated Court Proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights "Ius versus Iustitiam", held in Mostar.
The aforementioned competition was jointly organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Mostar, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV) of BiH, and the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In competition with teams from all public universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, third-year students Lamija Bašić and Jasmina Bajrić, and fourth-year students Ajna Alispahić and Ema Buro were better than the team from the Faculty of Law of the University of Mostar in the final match.
The submission of the Zenica team won second place in the written phase of the competition, placing the team in the first seeded group, while in the oral phase, student Lamija Bašić won the award for best oralist.
The students were coached by v. ass. Amna Gagula and v. ass. Lejla Zilić.
Along with the state champions, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica, Prof. Dr. Enis Omerović, also attended today's reception at the Canton.
With this victory, the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica has confirmed its continuity of excellence and high quality of practical legal education, further strengthening its reputation as the most awarded faculty of law among public universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prime Minister Pivić awarded the state champions with a monetary prize of 1,000 KM each and wished them much success in their future work and academic advancement.
One of the conclusions from today's reception and discussion between Prime Minister Pivić, Minister Mušija, Dean Omerović, and coach Zilić is the expressed desire for the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica to re-engage in the most prestigious world moot court competitions – the International Criminal Law competition held in The Hague and the prestigious competition in International Commercial Law and International Commercial Arbitration "Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot", held in Vienna.
The Zenica-Doboj Canton will provide financial support to teams preparing for these competitions so that they can represent the Faculty of Law, the University of Zenica, ZDK, and Bosnia and Herzegovina with dignity.
Regarding the competition in The Hague, organized by Leiden University, the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, and the World Bar Association, the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica achieved its best result in 2018, when then-student, and now assistant, Faris Muratović won the award for best oralist.
The "Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot" competition, traditionally held in Vienna, was established in honor of the esteemed Dutch professor of international commercial law, Willem Cornelius Vis, a distinguished scholar and one of the most significant authors in the field of international commercial and arbitration law.
This is the world's largest law student competition, and it also represents the largest annual international event in the field of commercial and arbitration law, bringing together students, professors, lawyers, judges, and arbitrators from around the world.
In 2018, a team of students from the Faculty of Law of the University of Zenica achieved historic success by reaching the top 16 teams out of a total of 377 teams from around the world.
Team members – fourth-year students Amina Hasanović, Ajna Mahmić, Emir Živčić, and Ibrahim Palalija – won a high third place, which represents the greatest success in the history of the faculty from the former Yugoslavia.
A competitor from this team, and now an assistant at the Faculty of Law in Zenica, Amina Hasanović, received an honorable mention, placing her among the best oralists of the entire competition.
